Name that Alpaca contest!! MODIFICATIONS!!

Please see the new and improved (but are they really?) rules!!! as of August 4th!!

Yes you read that right! And it's all about me!! Here I am, cute as ever.... hmmm.... all except for my ears, I heard that 2-legger saying "She's got her daddy's ears *tsk-tsk*..." whatever that means. Then she said I'd grow into them, like he did. Whatever. I'm still the cutest one on the ranch.

But I don't have a name yet!! It's been over a week already, sheesh! Since that 2-legger seems to have forgotten, I thought I'd ask you guys to come up with one for me! Whadda ya think? Good idea? I think it's gonna be great!!! I can't wait to hear Bob. T. Bear's name, I'm sure I'm gonna love it. After all, being an ursine, he has impeccable taste.... just don't eat me, okay? I heard that bears sometimes eat alpacas, but I am sure it's only the ugly ones, so I don't have to worry.

I thought I'd tell you a little about me, and don't forget to read till the end and check out the rules!

Well, I'm cute (obviously) and a girl! I love to play, I never walk anywhere, I run! I love to 'bounce' my momma- here she is with me. Her name is Arwen Undomiel, pretty huh? Her's is the schnoz you see in our blog profile.

I get into trouble cuz I'm always wanting to bounce, and the other moms don't like it. I think they are all old and boring, but whatever. I put everything in my mouth, how else am I gonna know if I want to eat it or not? I like to lay in the shade under the fan. I am a very pretty fawn color, with shades of red.

At night, just before it gets dark, me and my friends pronk (thats kinda like a bounce, or lotsa bounces!) all over our pens. we run into the fence, and try and knock over our mommas, it's so fun!!

That 2-legger says I'm growing like a weed, but I don't know what a weed is, so what does that mean?? I played in the sprinklers last week for the first time, I got my nose wet and then ran away!! Who needs that?? But, it was kinda fun running around the other whacky pacas who were practically swimming in them.... really, some pacas are so weird. I heard them saying, "Water!!! Water!!!! We finally have water!!!!!" whatever.......

My daddy is named Luxor (I know, not a LOTR name, but that dorky name was already given to him before he got here so....) and he is a fawn appaloosa. He has another kid here who is really pretty, he is a rosegray and he gets to start working as a stud this year! My mom called him a 'stud muffin' hmmm..... wonder what that means..... Here's my daddy:

So, if you think you might have a name for me, write to me in the comment section! If you have any more questions for me, ask and I will answer them, okay? Now, that 2-legger is shoving me out of the way.... gotta go! See you soon!

Love, ?????

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Okay, Rachelle here! So, the rules are:
#1- the name must be from the Lord of the Rings books, or The Hobbit. No modifications!! LOTR has been our theme since 1999, I can't change it now!
#2- we already have: BMAR's Bilbo Baggins, BMAR's Light of Earendil, BMAR's Gil Galad, BMAR's Lady Galadriel, Elrond, BMAR's Rosie Cotton, BMAR's Heathertoes, Mithrandir- The Gray Pilgrim, Mithril, BMAR's Arwen Undomiel, Faramir, BMAR's Elanor, and BMAR's Tinuviel. Of course, some of those are boys' names...... which brings me to- Please read this! Some of the names offered we already have! It would be sad if someone didn't get a chance because they missed one of these names :(
#3- it must be a girls name :))
#4- we must have more than 15 names to choose from, and only one name per blogger- so get your friends over here!! Here's where I have to modify! I thought this would be easy, but it looks like I might not have 15 names, so we will just choose from what we have received by the close of the contest.
That means you'd better get busy!!! :) This isn't hard guys, and I had enough faith in you all to initiate this, just do it!! Yup.... hop- hop-hop. A good resource is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elvish_languages
then follow the Tolkien links. You could also substitute "hobbits" for elves.
So, dig out your books!!! Search high and low!! As you can see, we don't go for the ordinary, easy names usually. The most creative, beautiful, and fitting will win.... drumroll please..... This:
A beautiful hand crocheted 100% alpaca scarf in natural cream and fawn colors. (and no, you won't receive the dust from the chair too :^/ Crikey!! Where'd that come from???)
Yes, I will send it to you, no matter where you live! And a full page, color photo of the little girl!
Contest starts now, and will end August 15th!! May the best LOTR name win!
Yikes! I had lotsa' names up until you mentioned the rules.. hmmn, guess I'll need to swot up a bit more first then. (sigh)
She is the daintiest, most gorgeriffic little critter I've ever seen - can't I win HER???? Okay, okay, stop snarling, I'm only joking - almost..
Rachelle said...
Yup, gotta have the LOTR thing going on. :))
That was the only stipulation my hubby made when I presented this idea to him.
You have to think of it this way:
Everytime we have a new cria, we get to go out to dinner alone, just the two of us, someplace out of the way...with our books, and peruse the delights of Tolkien until we find just the right name.
Sublime, isn't it?
I think he just misses the dinner part meself....
Gorgeous little baby! only LOTR? Sigh, my favorite (and only) book I own by Tolkein is Leaf By Nigle. Makes me cry every time.
silfiriel said...
you should name her Silfiriela, it's a mix of elvish words and it means "immortal one". I use it as my nick almost everywhere (i am a guy so it's Silfiriel).
Another name, but not LOTR would be (applause please): Prea Lee Canea.
And one strictly LOTR: Thinuviel (that would be nightingale)
silfiriel said...
If use one of this names please tell me. sstojanoski@gmail.com
Wow! What a lovely scarf! It's only eclipsed in beauty by the lovely little Goldberry. What? You haven't heard? Yes, your baby paca is named Goldberry, after the River-woman's daughter in Tolkein's book
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldberry)
And her name's derivative is "Flower Queen." I know, it's perfect!
Now send me that scarf!
singleton said...
Oh, I passed my LOTRs to others years ago, and probably need to start again.....
She's beautiful, her own shade of color, completely, unlike Mama and Papa.....
Oh what a cutie ! and the story too is so nice ! Unfortunately I don't know anything about the Lord of the Rings and therefore no names either. But isn't that little think too cute for a movie like "Lord of the Rings" ?
G'day Rachelle,
Okay you wanted a name from the book so here goes - Lady Galadriel.
What a gorgeous charming little creature! I wish I lived nearby, I would love to visit your Alpacas.
What do you do with them? Are they just used for their fur (I hope)?
As for the names, like Shrink, I was doing well until I learned it had to be from LOTR, so I will have to leave it to the experts!
I was sent by Mousie/Paisible to visit! Your little one is a charmer, and I would name her Elanor Gardner. She's "fair" like Sam and Rose's daughter and seems a bit more Hobbitish than Elvish to me. I think Arwen had daughters in the book but I don't think they were ever named.
Dear Sarah,
Now you're talkin!! Great name, and one I thought of for our Heathertoes last year but didn't use.
That's one! Hubby gets to pick (unless I overrule HA!!) from all the names submitted.
I love Tom Bombadil's music/poetry about Goldberry.
Rachelle said...
Dear Gattina,
Well, the movies were not the books my dear! But as a die hard fan of the books, I enjoyed the movies thoroughly, they were very well done.
There are about 500 names in the books. The number of characters in the movies were, understandably (although I could have watched a 5 hour LOTR movie if it had been done by Peter Jackson) limited.
Anywho.... I do go on, don't I?? :))
Thanks for visiting, and I hope you have a jolly good time in London!
OK, not sure if this one counts, but how about Nessa? Wikipedia doesn't specify whether or not it was mentioned in the trilogy, only the Middle Earth Legendarium, so it may not fit the criteria. However, here is the link about Nessa: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nessa
Since the little one likes to "pronk," Nessa the Dancer seems fitting :)
PS: I LOVE the idea of a contest for this, so cool. Sorry it took me so long to get back over here; you're right, I have tons to catch up on!
Victorya said...
I looked through and found one and then lost is and now am looking for it hold on I think I found it again
Tiarella Puddifoot
I just love the last name puddifoot and it seems to fit this little one, it's like pussyfooting only mcuh much cuter as puddi's are cuter than pussy's (cats ,people).
And Tiarella, well, she looks like she could use a tiara!
I did search through all the links you provided, so hopefully it fits the criteria as it was listed (first and last name separately) as being from the Tolkein universe!
Victorya said...
oh yeah, or just Tiarella :) It's such a nice feminine name though, isn't it?
see, i told you were cool. you could be a stand up comedian. I have five blogs and there all with hi-res pics, (comments were disabled because , well people download the pics and go away). So i was thinking when the cria gets named if you could e-mail me a picture of the cria and your farm perhaps or the surroundings so that it would fit my blogs, I will post it at least on three of my blogs and i will link to yours. Now that I am writing this it got to me that sooner this would have been better to do it, because maybe you would've had more names to choose from but that's how slow my brain is. Best enjoyed as an adult, I read them when I was a teenager and fell in love.
I reread them every year, and wish I could write like that.....
China and Russia put the blame on some screwed up experiments of US for the earthquake that happened in Haiti.
Chinese and Russian Military scientists, these reports say, are concurring with Canadian researcher, and former Asia-Pacific Bureau Chief of Forbes Magazine, Benjamin Fulford, who in a very disturbing video released from his Japanese offices to the American public, details how the United States attacked China by the firing of a 90 Million Volt Shockwave from the Americans High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) facilities in Alaska
If we can recollect a previous news when US blamed Russia for the earthquake in Georgio. What do you guys think? Is it really possible to create an earthquake by humans?
Depending on what your destination is and how long you plan on making your trip for, the airfare may be the priciest expense. Because of this, finding a great deal on the airfare becomes extremely important. The more money you are able to save on the plane tickets, the more money you will be able to use toward your actual vacation.
When it comes to purchasing your airline tickets, the sooner the better. This goes for basically anywhere you plan on traveling. When you purchase a ticket sooner, lets say several months before the trip, there will be less of a demand, which will drive the price of the ticket down. However, on the flip side, as the day of the desired flight approaches, the flight's seats will begin to fill up. As fewer and few seats become available, the higher the demand will be, which will drive the price up. Booking the flight in as far advance as you can may save you hundreds of dollars in the long run.
Flying during the middle of the week is generally the cheapest time to fly. Fewer people travel during mid week than on Friday through Sunday. If at all possible, fly out on a Tuesday or Wednesday. You may actually find prices significantly less expensive on the Wednesday than the Sunday of the same week.
Looking for airfare online will probably be your best be at securing the cheapest possible flight price. There are multiple booking agencies which specialize in finding the cheapest airfare. However, to save time, go to Bing.com, which offers a comprehensive flight search option. Bing will search other travel sites (Expedia, Priceline, Hotwire, etc.) and display the cheapest flight form each site. From here you will be able to decide which website offers the best deal.
Students can often find discounted airfare by visiting STA.com. This is the Student Travel Association, and it can sometimes find less expensive airfare for the traveling student. This isn't always the case, but it doesn't hurt to look.
In 1959 phentermine first received approval from the FDA as an appetite suppressing drug. Phentermine hydrochloride then became available in the early 1970s. It was previously sold as Fastin from King Pharmaceuticals for SmithKline Beecham, however in 1998 it was removed from the market. Medeva Pharmaceuticals sells the name brand of phentermine called Ionamin and Gate Pharmaceuticals sells it as Adipex-P. Phentermine is also currently sold as a generic. Since the drug was approved in 1959 there have been almost no clinical studies performed. The most recent study was in 1990 which combined phentermine with fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine and became known as Fen-Phen.[citation needed]
In 1997 after 24 cases of heart valve disease in Fen-Phen users, fenfluramine and dexfenfluramine were voluntarily taken off the market at the request of the FDA. Studies later proved that nearly 30% of people taking fenfluramine or dexfenfluramine had abnormal valve findings. The FDA did not ask manufacturers to remove phentermine from the market.
cheap phentermine Phentermine is still available by itself in most countries, including the U.S. However, because it is similar to amphetamines, it is classified as a controlled substance in many countries (including Australia). Internationally, phentermine is a schedule IV drug under the Convention on Psychotropic Substances.[1] In the United States, it is classified as a Schedule IV controlled substance under the Controlled Substances Act.
Looking forward, Phentermine is being studied with another medication for obesity. The experimental appetite suppressant drug Qnexa is a mixture of Phentermine and Topiramate.
Phentermine, in doses clinically used, works on the hypothalamus portion of the brain to release norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter or chemical messenger that signals a fight-or-flight response, reducing hunger. Phentermine works outside the brain as well to release epinephrine or adrenaline causing fat cells to break down stored fat, but the principal basis of efficacy is hunger-reduction. At high doses, phentermine releases serotonin and dopamine as well, but such doses are never used in clinical medicine.
They have throusands of reviews from the most independent bands all over the world. Check them out online: Enough Fanzine. Best of it all, they are 100% non-profit and just helping the scene!
Another issue that you must stay on top of is price fluctuations from the bookmaker. The prices for placing bets do not just change with different bookies but even with the same. You cannot take it for granted that the prices that are quoted in print like the Racing Post will be valid at the time of the event. With sports betting things can change very rapidly so be sure that the price will be honored before placing your bet otherwise this can seriously affect the outcome of your arbitrage sports betting.
Following the philosophy of pyramiding, what happens in this system is that you place a bet and if you come out a winner you re-invest the winnings on the next wager. So in horse racing, for example, you simply let it ride. Also, unlike the other betting systems, the Parlay System offers a lower amount of risk of all bettors for because they only need be concerned with a win, place or show selection or a combination thereof.
The Paroli System, of all the famed sports betting systems, is thought to be opposite that of Martingale. Where the difference lies is on the scheme that with the Paroli System, you start with one wager and then up the wager when you win rather than with a loss. This system lets the profit run and cut short the losses, which makes it appealing due to the fact that you don’t have to have a lot of money to be able to use it effectively.
So, having established that using a good Selection System is an absolute must if you want to make money from sports betting, how does the average Bettor actually go about making his/her betting selections? My research shows me that, in the main (ignoring the extremes), there are generally two approaches taken:
- The more conservative group looks at the "Short Odds" calls, and plays safe by selecting only those matches where they themselves feel very confident about the outcome.
- The more adventurous group analyses the matches and odds on offer, and then makes selections based on their own gut feeling about how the matches will turn out, making sure that the odds match their concept of a "value" bet.
